INFRA RED PHOTOGRAPHY
Photos taken on a field recording trip with award-winning sound artist Nikki Sheth in the Azores, 2023 using a canon 5d Mkii and Hoya IR filter with long exposure times.
Foliage appears unusually bright due to how it reflects infra red wavelengths of light, normally invisible to the human eye. On the other hand, bodies of water appear eerily dark.
Historically, infra red film was used by the military during the First World War to distinguish between foliage, water and buildings, as well as to distinguish between living foliage and the dead foliage which was used for camouflage.
